Specific parameters


Besides the usual parameters, the society develops, manufactures and sells specific loggers able to measure and record specific parameters. NKE Instrumentation has a great expertise in high resolution density and absolute salinity as well as in pCO2 concentration in seawater. Some products are able to study mudflats or beach level variations. Some devices are adapted to fishermen as they measure and record tractive forces in fishing structures and hook timers measures the time ran out between the moment the fish swallowed the hook and the halving of the line.

NOSS: density and absolute salinity

Description - The thermodynamic properties of seawater, such as density and enthalpy, are now correctly expressed as functions of Absolute Salinity rather than being functions of the conductivity of seawater. Spatial variations of the composition of seawater mean that Absolute Salinity is not simply proportional to Practical Salinity.

NOSS sensor, for NKE Optical Salinity Sensor, is a unique underwater sensor for in situ refractive index measurement and capable to detect salinity anomalies of seawater. NOSS sensor has been designed for an use even in harsh environments, down to 2000 meters. It becomes a pioneer for initiating experimental studies on the refractive index/density of seawater with anomalous composition. It has been designed to be integrated on surface buoys, sea bottom observatories and profiling Provor floats (down to 2000m) and it takes advantage of its little size and low power energy.

Description - The pCO2 sensor provides very precise autonomous measurements based on a spectrophotometry approach regarding the pCO2 concentration.

The sensor is designed to measure the concentration of pCO2 at the surface of the ocean. Therefore the CO2 exchange between atmosphere and ocean can be qualified.

This is a kind of re-marinization of the concept in order to be fully compliant regarding the integration on instrumented buoys.

The sensor can also be full autonomous and work by itself through a Modbus mode as the sensor includes a seawater pump and a spectrometer and achieves one year of operating autonomy with one measurement every hour served by a power supply.

The pCO2 sensor can be integrated on CARIOCA and PIRATA buoys with the aim to measure CO2 partial at the sea surface of ocean and also determine the AIR-SEA CO2 fluxes in open ocean.

ALTUS: Siltation, Sedimentation, Erosion

Description - Altus permits to study mudflats or beach level variations according to tidal currents and swell.

This high frequency acoustic data logger is equipped with a 2 MHz transducer located on a light frame at a given distance from the seabed. Altus can be used as tidegauge thanks to its accurate pressure sensor.

The parameter setting and reading of the Atlus are carried out using a Data Pencil connected to the serial link of a PC computer. All the command functions are available in the Winmemo II software supplied with the Data Pencil.

SF: Traction and compression forces, fishing

Description - SF, for tractive force data logger, measures and records tractive forces in a fishing string, buoy moorings or any structure secured by a cable, such aquaculture cages for example. The SF is shock resistant and waterproof down to 300 meters.

Down to 50 meters, data can be read underwater thanks to a waterproof Data Pencil, without removing the SF. Fast wireless configuration and data collection thanks to a communication interface connected to the USB port of a PC using Winmemo software.

The SF tractive force data logger is available in different versions: 2, 5, 10 and 35 tons.

S2T6000 DH-TI: High temperature

Description - S2T6000 DH TI allows to measure and record temperature. It is designed to be used in harsh environments down to 6000 meters and up to 450°C. The S2T6000 DH TI logger is made of titanium. Moreover, the logger is very easy to use as it is a remote sensor that is light and compact. There is a fast wireless configuration and data collection thanks to a communication interface connected to the USB port of a PC. An underwater communication is possible thanks to a wireless transmission connected to a submarine, a ROV or an AUV.

SPAR: Irradiance

Description - SPAR enables to measure and record active radiation for photosynthesis in fresh and salt waters – radiation with wavelengths between 400nm and 700nm but also the irradiance. The data logger is easy to use as it benefits from a fast wireless configuration and data collection thanks to a communication interface connected to the USB port of a PC using Winmemo software.

SPAR is available is with a flat LI-cor sensor.

SPCT: Corrosion

Description - The SPCT data logger allows the in situ recording of temperature and corrosion potential between a test point that is made of an immersed metallic structure and a measuring electrode in zinc. The SPCT logger is designed for monitoring of cathodic protection for submerged stationary or mobile or inaccessible structures in service: capacity, circuits, pumps, filters.

The SPCT data logger is also intended to identify the origin of the corrosion of complex systems and it allows the recording of the temperature of the environment.

SCPC: Determination of the Cathodic Protection

Description - The SCPC logger provides in situ the value of current density necessary to protect an immerged metallic structure. It allows to determine the characteristics of the cathodic protection needed such as size, number of sacrificial anodes or power supply. Current density depends on the environmental parameters, dissolved oxygen, marine currents, temperature, which influence electrochemical reactions on the surface of the structure to be protected.

The originality of SCPC lies in the fact that the instrument housing is made of the tested alloy.

AirCorr: Corrosion

Description - AirCorr measures and registers the change over time in the electrical resistance (ER) of a thin metal track applied on an insulating substrate. It the metal corrodes, the cross-selectional area of the track decreases and the ER increases. The changes in ER can be directly translated into corrosion depth and corrosion rate.

The AirCorr monitoring system is comprised of an electronic logger for measuring and recording ER, a metal sensor that actually corrodes in the environment, a non-contact communication interface between the logger and computer, and a user-friendly software programme.

Hook Timer: Biting time, Fishing

Description - The Hook Timers are mounted on long lines.

The Hook Timer allows to measure the time ran out between the moment the fish has swallowed the hook and the halving of the line. Knowing the time of the line halving, it is then possible to calculate the exact moment when the fish swallowed the bait. It is thus possible to determine the optimal average time to drop and haul the long lone. The Hook Timer is fixed between the main line and the hook.

The Hook Timer is made of a waterproof box with a micro controller and a display and a cap containing a magnet.
